At present, having an updated COVID-19 vaccination status is not compulsory for entry into the country. However, individuals who are not vaccinated must show proof of a COVID-19 certificate before their journey. This rule applies universally to all travelers, including both foreign residents and nationals.

Upon arrival, Uganda does not enforce any quarantine measures. However, it is advisable to exercise caution and undergo a COVID-19 test before travel if you experience flu-like symptoms, as it is crucial to isolate individuals who test positive.

Is a COVID-19 vaccination necessary for travel to Uganda?

Vaccination certification is not mandatory for entry into the country. Regardless of your COVID-19 vaccination status, there are distinct guidelines for vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers.

For vaccinated individuals, entry into the country is permitted without the need for a COVID-19 test. It's important to note that booster shots are not required in Uganda. Additionally, travelers aged five years and below are exempt from the testing requirements.

However, it's crucial to highlight that unvaccinated travelers without a negative COVID-19 test will be denied entry.

Are there additional vaccination requirements for Uganda?

Uganda doesn’t have mandatory vaccination requirements for visitors. However, some vaccinations are recommended before traveling to Uganda due to prevalent diseases in the region.

To enter Uganda, travelers must also acquire a proof of Yellow Fever vaccination certification. This document is REQUIRED for travelers coming from or transiting through countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission. It's often recommended regardless of travel history due to the risk of exposure in certain regions of Uganda.

To gain entry into Uganda, a visa is REQUIRED, which could be either an electronic or paper visa. For the most convenience, we highly recommend utilizing the Uganda ETA for your journey. Moreover, travelers should also double-check the necessary documents before applying for a visa, kindly navigate to the Uganda e-Visa requirements for better guidance. 

  • An e-Visa Application Form: You'll need to fill out the visa application form accurately. This form can usually be obtained online through the Uganda Immigration Services website.

  • Passport of your citizenship: A valid passport with at least 06 months of validity beyond your intended departure in Uganda. Ensure there are blank visa pages in the passport for visa stamps.

  • Passport-Sized Photos: Usually, two recent passport-sized photos meeting specific size and quality requirements are necessary.

  • Proof of Yellow Fever Vaccination Certification

  • Travel Insurance: Highly recommended during your stay in Uganda.

  • Travel Itinerary: Verify your travel plans indicating your intended entry/ departure dates from Uganda.

  • Proof of Accommodation: Evidence of where you will stay during your time in Uganda. This could be hotel reservations or a letter of invitation from a host in Uganda.

What are the prices and processing times for the Uganda e-visa?

The processing time depends much on the type of service that you apply for, and so do the prices. Typically, the processing time is divided into 3 types:

  • Standard processing: The process will take about 03 business days.

  • Urgent processing: In 02 business days, your e-visa will be granted.

  • Super-Urgent processing: You will get your e-visa in 24 business hours.
