How long is the East Africa Visa valid and can I extend it?
When traveling for an extended period between Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda you need to know about the validity period of the East Africa Tourist Visa and if you can extend it while you are visiting.
90-day validity across the region
The East Africa Visa stays active for 90 days starting from your first entry into any country that gave you the visa. Across your ninety-day East Africa Tourist Visa validity period you can move freely between the three countries without needing further documents or payment. The East Africa Visa enables travel between Uganda and Rwanda throughout its valid period.
No extension available
Unfortunately, the East Africa Tourist Visa cannot be extended once it’s issued. This rule applies across all three countries. If your 90 days are over and you wish to stay longer, you will need to exit the region and apply for a new visa.
Plan ahead to maximize your trip
Your visa experience will reach its maximum benefit through advance planning of both your travel destinations and dates. Last-minute travel decisions should be avoided because they might lead to overstay of your visa and require you to shorten your travel plans. Visitors planning to visit Tanzania and Burundi during their East Africa bloc exploration should save these destinations for last since re-entry with the same visa is not possible.
