What is the best time of year to go to Uganda?
The best time to visit Uganda largely depends on what you plan to do and see during your trip. However, generally speaking, the dry seasons from June to August and December to February are considered the best times for traveling to Uganda.
The dry season is the best time to go gorilla trekking in Uganda because there is less moisture on the forest floors, the routes are accessible, and you can be confident that neither you nor your photography gear will be soaked by the intense downpours. However, it would be best if you don't rule out the possibility of rain since you are hiking in the rainforest.
The dry season is also the greatest time to explore Uganda's wildlife savannah reserves, when the skies are clear, less rain, more sunshine, and less vegetation. Since animals congregate around major water sources, water holes operate as a natural animal magnet, making it easier to spot wildlife. Additionally, it is the ideal time to go on a boat launch safari on the Victoria Nile at Murchison Falls National Park and the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
At this time of year, Uganda's savannah parks do not feel as busy as those in Kenya and Tanzania, and you may enjoy the huge savannah plains nearly to yourself.
Gorilla trekking permits become rare because the two dry seasons in Uganda are the greatest times to see mountain gorillas. To avoid disappointment, we recommend to trekkers to secure their gorilla permit several months in advance, at least four to twelve months earlier.
