Uganda Visa For Estonian Citizens - Requirements & Fees

Uganda, known for its diverse wildlife, is famous among Estonian tourists, especially those interested in observing various mammals and primates, such as mountain gorillas. Estonian passport holders must obtain a visa before traveling to Uganda. Estonian nationals can apply for a visa to enter Uganda via:

• Apply for a visa at the Uganda Embassy.
• Apply for an Uganda e-Visa (online visa).

The user-friendly system makes obtaining a Uganda e-visa more convenient for Estonian citizens. Previously, Estonian travelers had to visit Uganda Embassies or Consulates for an Uganda e-visa, which involved time-consuming booking an appointment in advance. However, the introduction of the e-visa system in 2016 by the Ugandan government has streamlined the process, allowing Estonian citizens to apply entirely online. For short-term travel or mainly tourism purposes in Uganda, we highly recommend visitors apply for an online visa. The e-visa is typically the most practical option for Estonian travelers. The electronic visa system, implemented by the Uganda Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2016, aims to promote the economic and tourist sector, expediting the visa application process for worldwide travelers. 

The electronic visa simplifies and accelerates the visa acquisition process for Estonian individuals. Following the submission of the required documents and visa application forms,

• Select “Apply Visa” to begin.
• Provide the required information in the e-visa application form, including full name, gender, date of birth, nationality, and passport number. It’s IMPORTANT to double-check your information. 
• Choose your preferred payment method. A credit or debit card will be required. 
• To complete your application, submit the visa fees. 

The process generally takes 3 business days. Once approved, the e-visa will be delivered to the applicant’s email address. 

Before traveling to Uganda, Estonian travelers can apply for a visa online through the Uganda Immigration Services portal. After submitting the application form, Estonian residents will receive the Uganda ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) via email within three business days. • A passport must be valid for at least 06 months from the entry date in the country.
• The passport should have at least 1 blank page for visa stamping purposes. 
• A copy of the biographical information in the passport.

• Verify your travel plan in the country (date of arrival/ departure, accommodation reservation, etc.)

To proceed with the application, applicants must submit the following 02 e-visa fees: The Uganda government fee and the Service fee. The Service Fee is based on the processing time, while the Government Fee covers the cost of providing the visa by the Uganda Immigration Department.

Estonian citizens with an Estonian passport must pay a government fee of US$100 for a transit e-visa and US$150 for an East Africa e-visa. The government fee is non-refundable once applied. For Uganda's urgent processing visa, the Rush Visa service provides 03 different processing times with service fees included:

• Standard processing: Applicants must pay US$69, to receive an Uganda e-visa in three business days.
• Urgent processing: Applicants can get a visa in less than 48 business hours with a fee of US$79.
• Super-Urgent processing: Applicants needing a visa within a matter of hours can use this service, paying an extra fee of US$99 for an e-visa within 24 business hours.

Estonian visitors to Uganda can receive a visa on arrival. Though this method of travel is provided for individuals who do not intend to or do not remember to apply for a valid visa ahead of time, it is not strongly advised for Estonian tourists.

Due to the potential of many visitors at the entry upon arrival, individuals often spend a considerable amount of time registering and standing in long lines for a visa on arrival. Furthermore, if visitors do not have sufficient documents, they may be rejected entry to Uganda, resulting in wasted time and money.

Therefore, to ensure a smooth application process, it's recommended to apply for an e-visa online through the Uganda Immigration Services platform. Estonian travelers who overstay their Uganda e-visa could face deportation, fines, or future travel restrictions. Overstays that exceed 60 days may result in a lawsuit. Therefore, Estonian nationals should carefully verify the expiration date on their e-visa and ensure they leave the country before the visa expires to prevent overstaying.

If a visitor desires to stay in Uganda for longer than 90 days, they still have to leave the country and re-apply for a new visa.
